Project Description

The Indiana Harbor Belt Rail Road is the largest switch carrier in the U.S., generating 170,000 carloads of business annually. ABNA was tasked with designing updates to the IHBRR Roundhouse facility located in Hammond, IN. The objective of these upgrades was to add the capacity for servicing Compressed Natural Gas locomotives. ABNA performed a LiDAR survey and on-site inspection to inform design plans for a new heating system, a methane monitoring system, plumbing upgrades, and lighting and electric updates. ABNA’s electrical services included power demand calculations, power source determination, layout of transmission lines, voltage drop calculations, and the preparation of construction plans for the CNG station.
